“FUCK YOU! FUCK YOU! I’M FUCKIN’ DYING HERE! I’M FUCKIN’ DYING! “

Sherlock: Lestrade, there's been a break in at Baker Street.
*Lestrade arrives at 221B.*
The Reichenbach Fall:
Sgt. Donovan: Sir, there's been a break in.
Lestrade: Not our division.
#I think anything Sherlock related is just assigned to Lestrade's division

Can we, as a culture stop doing this one thing, just for me? Can we stop villainizing medication?

Yes, there are some people who abuse prescriptions. Some doctors who over medicate because of pharmacological company kick backs. There  are some alternative treatments that could work better than some medications.

But to constantly see my right to my medications questioned, to constantly be seen as weak because I gave into the need to have them, to have to fight charges of addiction by friends and doctors alike … that’s fucked up.

I have two very severe but non-life threatening illnesses, Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome. The can be quite manageable for some people, but without my medications I’m in so much agony that it becomes impossible to breathe and I can’t even feed myself.

Other people with my illnesses can move and help themselves a little but can’t enjoy life because of the amount of pain they are constantly in.We are often given drugs like pain medications in order to muffle that agony enough for us to sort of get on with our lives.

We are not drug addicts. We don’t get high from the pain meds. I’ve been taking pain medications for about five years now. I’ve never once felt euphoria from them, and I’m not high all the time, or any of the time actually.

Yet I see so many ways that our society encourages people to pass judgement on those who need medication to function. We are seen as drowning reality out with a haze of pills. Or worse, so much worse, we are seen as not strong enough to take what life gives us.

Well, stop it.

Because I went five years through this illness without taking meds because of this attitude, only to find out that during those five years the constant pain twisted my body out of shape, made sure that new pain receptors were grown thus increasing my ability to feel pain, and fucking me for life.

And I watch this society do the same thing to other people with my illnesses, with other chronic things and worst of all with depression and anxiety. And it kind of sickens me.

What is the point of all this shame you toss on us? If you think that doctors give out too many medicines then change the health care system so pharmacological companies can’t give kickbacks, but don’t restrict our access to the only things we have helping us, and don’t shame us into skipping our meds just because you are a douche.

Honestly.

So I had this conversation with my mum, and she explained to me exactly why I’d never get a tourist visa or anything ever.
