Went to see Ian McKellen On Stage (fundraiser for Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch) tonight at the Theatre Royal in Nelson. It was amazing. Can’t describe how incredible it is to see someone like that reciting Wordsworth and Shakespeare monologues from 2 metres away (I may have been in the front row).
The first part of the evening to make me giggle however, was not Sir Ian, it was one of the quotes in the programme, which I’m copying here in case it also makes someone else giggle.
Some would call it ‘selfless’.
Others may say ‘committed’.
Others yet would point to the truly admirable way a Knight of the theatre takes a pause from filming two of the biggest films in production, reprising a legendary role, using his vast experience and talent to entertain thousands of punters and help raise funds for a grand old theatre in Christchurch.
I, however, would call it ‘skiving’. So if you would be so kind, send Ian back to his day job ASAP; there’s only so long we can cover for him. Mr Jackson still thinks he’s still on a ‘pee break’.

Martin Freeman walking into the set of The Hobbit.
Close your mouth, dear.
Darling, what are you doing? Your hands, use them. They make carrying things super easy. God I love you so much.
